- The holiday was very popular in the first couple of celebration's as it was just for Washington DC employees
- Shortly after the holiday expanded to all corners of the US and was a nationally celebrated day on the third Monday in February
- Now the holiday has lost most of its significance with only around 40% of people granted the day off and even less of them celebrating the holiday

- There used to be large festivities that took place throughout the weekend and ended on Monday
- Many local communities and large cities would have parades to celebrate patriotism
- Some people would host large parties that would go late into the evening and in many cases into the early hours of the morning

- Many stores will run deals to get customers in the doors typically labeled as President's Day Sale
- All government offices and many government employees are off for the day
- There is typically a celebration or special dinner at the White House with the President and First Family
